The basics

What is an indoor basketball court barn?

An indoor basketball court barn is a clear-span steel barn built around a court: open floor with no posts in the way, tall sidewalls for the hoop and the arc of the ball, a durable sport floor, bright even lighting and a wall-mounted or adjustable goal. It gives your family a year-round place to play on your own property.

Every Hardy Barn starts with the same dependable shell, then we finish it for how you'll play. Our court & shop barn, for example, pairs a half court with an open shop under one roof, with 18′ walls and two 12′ × 12′ overhead doors. Another recent build hides a full basketball court inside a classic 40 × 60 with charcoal siding and black doors.

Half court or full court?

A half court fits inside a smaller footprint and leaves room for a shop, storage or a hangout area. A full court needs a longer clear span. We'll size the barn to your land, your budget and how serious the games get.

Who builds one?

Families with young athletes, coaches who want a training space, and landowners who simply want the best game-night spot in the county. Most of our customers already own their land, and many pay cash or bring their own financing.

Popular court barn options

  • Clear-span interior with no posts on the court
  • Taller sidewalls for a hoop and high arcs
  • Sport-court, epoxy or hardwood-look floors
  • Bright LED lighting and wall padding
  • Insulation, heat and fans for year-round play
  • Bathroom, bar or viewing lounge add-ons

Planning your court

What matters when you build a court barn

A few decisions shape how the court plays. We walk through each one with you before anything is ordered.

Court size and layout

Decide on a half court, a full court or a court with room to spare for a sideline lounge, a shop bay or storage. We lay out lines, run-off space and doors around the court.

Ceiling height

Wall height is what makes a barn feel like a gym. Taller sidewalls and the right truss height keep shots and rebounds from hitting the ceiling.

Floor finish

Choose a sport-court surface, an epoxy floor like our court & shop barn or a hardwood-look finish. Each has a different feel, price and upkeep.

Lighting and comfort

Even, glare-free lighting, insulation, heat and big fans make the court usable in an Indiana January and a July afternoon.

Add-on spaces

Add a bathroom for game days, a kitchenette or bar, a viewing area or a batting cage and golf simulator bay beside the court.

Site and access

We check grade, drainage, utilities and permits on your land, then place the barn so it's easy to reach from the house and the drive.

FAQ

Indoor basketball court barn questions

  • How big does a barn need to be for a basketball court?

It depends on whether you want a half court or a full court and how much space you want around the lines. A half court fits a much smaller barn than a full court. We size the barn to your land, your budget and how you'll play, then show you the layout before you sign.

  • How tall should the walls be for an indoor court?

Taller is better for shooting and rebounding. Our court & shop barn uses 18′ walls. We'll recommend a wall and truss height based on the age of your players and the hoop you choose.

  • What floor do you recommend for a barn basketball court?

Common choices are a sport-court surface, an epoxy floor or a hardwood-look floor. We'll compare feel, durability, cost and upkeep so you can pick what fits.

  • Can the court barn also be a shop or party barn?

Yes. Many owners pair the court with a shop, storage, a bathroom, a bar or a lounge. Our court & shop barn puts a half court and an open shop under one roof.

  • Do I need to own land to build a court barn?

Most of our customers already own their land or have family land. If you're still looking, tell us on the form and we'll point you to local land and lot resources.
